RESIDENTIAL CONSTRUCTION
Bemm Artist Studio/Garage, Seattle, WA
The client needed an artist studio at home. We decided to tear down the existing detached carport and design a structure that would fit into the neighborhood, ideally reading as “garage”. Using three different building methods (stick framing, scissor truss system and SIPS panels (Enercept Structural Insulated Panels), we designed a 14’ x 28’ artist studio that would double as a garage should the client ever decide to sell their house. This building also included the addition of a small office, bathroom and storage space. A hydronic radiant system was built into the concrete slab for the heat source. The scissor truss ceiling allowed a higher ceiling for room to maneuver the client’s larger paintings.
